Shorelines 2019 at the Workhouse

Behind the Scenes at the Shorelines Gallery set up

The upper storeys of the workhouse are slowly being transformed in a wonderland of artistic expression. There is something very cathartic about seeing the walls change from bare, white-washed reminders of a cruel regime to a multi-coloured kaleidoscope of free expression. In case you haven't guessed what I am talking about, it's the return  of the annual art exhibition in The Gallery at the Workhouse. This will run from the 9th September-22nd September. Themes of beauty, mystery, colour and myth are all expressed in a variety of mediums. Let's dive in and see what is on offer!

Fine-tuning the painting layout

  • Ann McKenna is a painter and print-maker whose work conjures fairy-tales and Shakespeare in equal measure. https://www.annmckenna.ie/
  • Mary O'Connor is an artist fascinated by her surroundings who expresses her experiences through shapes, space and colour. https://maryoconnorart.com
  • Judy Powell draws her inspiration from her home town of West Cork.
  • Janice Gilmore is a passionate embroiderer and jewelry maker. It is so exciting to see jewelry at Shorelines as I am a huge fan of all forms of wearable art. https://www.janicegilmore.com/
As usual there is a strong contingent of very talented local artists, and it is wonderful to see a vibrant mixture of professional and amateur artists. The Workhouse is open 7 days a week, 9:30 until close, so there is no reason to miss this wonderful exhibition.
